Description
What is it
Ponnanganni (Alternanthera sessilis), sessile joyweed, is a low, spreading green that thrives near water channels and in damp corners of the garden. In Sanskrit it is called Matsyakshi.
It is one of Tamil Nadu’s favourite keerai, cooked into poriyal with coconut and into kootu, and Siddha tradition values it as part of an everyday wellness routine. Our powder is made from the leaves alone.
What Makes This Different
- Leaf only. Made from ponnanganni leaves, the part cooked as keerai.
- Fresh green character. Carefully dried to keep the leaf’s own colour and mild flavour.
- Single ingredient. 100% Ponnanganni leaf, with no fillers, flavouring or blending agents.
What It Does
- A traditional Siddha green. Valued as part of everyday wellness and nourishment.
- A Tamil keerai favourite. Easy to add to poriyal, kootu, dal and soup.
- Mild and pleasant. One of the gentlest-tasting keerai.
- A cheerful English name. In English it’s called joyweed, and its Sanskrit name, Matsyakshi, means “fish-eyed”, after the small, glossy flower heads.
A Keerai With Joy in Its Name
Mild, generous and always green near the water’s edge, ponnanganni has long been a favourite on Tamil plates. FounditGood Ponnanganni Leaf Powder keeps this joyweed ready for everyday cooking.
