Pungai (Pongamia pinnata), known as karanj in Hindi and Karanja in Sanskrit, is the glossy, shady tree that lines countless Tamil roads and temple yards, its branches hung with pale lilac flowers in spring.

How to Use It

Herbal bath: Simmer 2 teaspoons in a litre of water for 10 minutes and add to your bath water.

Bath blend: Mix with green gram flour and use in place of soap.

Storage: Keep in an airtight container, away from heat, light and moisture. Use a dry spoon.
